Mix, Melt, Mark & Brush: A Color Show

Most of us are steeped in color every day whether we think about it or not: color that exists in the natural world, and color that we surround ourselves with in clothing choices and living spaces. Color affects our choices when we order a meal, plan a garden, select a car, or share a photo with friends on Facebook,

This exhibition presents opportunities to learn how artists select color for their art work. While an artist’s color choices are always a matter of individual preference, the ways artists mix and apply color vary greatly according to their discipline’s creative process and their understanding of its impact on their viewers. Featured artists in the exhibition include Virmarie DePoyster of North Little Rock (pastels), James Hayes of Pine Bluff (art glass), and Little Rock artists Julie Holt (ceramic) and Elizabeth Webber and Emily Moll Wood (acrylic painting). Selected works, artists’ statements, and photographs of the artists at work suggest ways to think about their use of color, and how it directly affects our understanding of ourselves and our world.
