Mockingbird

Mockingbird

Taking their name from the Arkansas state bird, the five-piece string band Mockingbird has a repertoire with roots in Ozark folk music and traditional Arkansas songs. Fitting their program to the audiences with humor and high-energy, Mockingbird also draws upon a variety of other “roots” genres: country blues, old time gospel, children’s songs, and jug band music. One member of the group plays “found” musical instruments—a duck call, for instance—or makes his own instruments. His “grunt-horn” is a deer call affixed with a small toilet plunger as the bell of the horn. Mockingbird can provide the history of their old songs and conduct entertaining, educational programs and/or music workshops tailored to audiences of any age.
