Kelly Franklin

Kelly Franklin

Kelly Franklin is both dynamic and ethereal in performance, her powerful, clear voice resonating between gutsy low and angel high as she plays six-and twelve-string acoustic and electric guitar. Kelly’s original songs are a mix of folk, rock, pop, jazz, blues, and country, and deal with universal events and emotions that many experience: striving for personal growth, love gone right or wrong, and the irony of life. Kelly has a dry and dark wit, but her music is appreciated by a wide-ranging audience. She has shared the stage with Ani DiFranco, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Earl Keen, Tom Kimmel, and the House Band from Great Britain. Her debut CD “Labyrinth” features several appearances by British fiddle legend Dave Swarbrick. “Dirty Linen” magazine wrote: “powerful vocals, but better yet she utilizes her guitar to strongly shape her songs, instead of just strumming to accompany her voice. Primarily acoustic in nature, her songs are best defined as modern folk with a penchant for blues motifs. Focusing on situations which have affected Franklin, some of these tunes are achingly beautiful.” The subject matter in some songs may be for mature audiences only, but Kelly’s program can be adjusted as appropriate. Songwriting workshops for young children are also available. Kelly can perform solo, or with other musicians.
