Russian Artel

Russian Artel is an ensemble of Russian and European music and culture enthusiasts. United by a love for folk art and a desire to preserve its rich cultural legacy, the ensemble has come together to share it with Arkansas. Russian Artel includes talented artists from different regions and Republics of the former USSR: Estonia, Ukraine, Tatarstan, and Russia. The group’s repertoire includes Russian and European music played on piano, violin, accordion, guitar, balalaika, saxophone and drums, as well as Russian and Gypsy dances.

Russian Artel also presents stage productions based on Russian fairy tales and cultural traditions. These shows provide a unique opportunity for the audience members to get acquainted with Russian folk tale characters. The latest production is “Baba Yaga’s Tales.” The show is in Russian with English translation and is suitable for all ages. More details can be found athttp://russianartel.wordpress.com/2012/02/13/baba-yagas-tales/

Performances include slideshow presentations to enhance the introduction of Russian folk craft and art to the audience, and a display of the beauty and intricacy of national folk costumes made by the performers themselves. Russian Artel is perfect for schools programs, festivals, and multi-cultural events.
