Stephen Feldman

A gifted and enthusiastic communicator in recital, educational settings, and as soloist with orchestra, cellist Stephen Feldman offers a variety of programs. Dr. Feldman is currently Associate Professor of Cello at the University of Central Arkansas and is a founding member of UCA’s Diana Piano Trio and Little Rock’s SOMA String Quartet. For school demonstrations and more informal setting, Stephen presents an engaging mix of unaccompanied cello music, combining works of J.S. Bach, alternative style compositions including pieces of Mark O’Connor and Cajun Cellist Sean Grissom, and folk-inspired 20th-Century solo compositions by Gaspar Cassado and Zoltan Kodaly. Depending on the age group, the program can also include an introduction to string instruments and music as a form of communication. For evening programs, presenters can choose between an all-Bach program and a program that includes both Bach compositions and other virtuosic works for solo cello: Bach Suites—A recital of three of J. S. Bach’s Suites for Unaccompanied Cello; The Virtuoso Cellist—A full recital of virtuosic solo cello compositions including a solo Bach Suite, Gaspar Cassado’s Suite for Violoncello Solo (1926), Zoltan Kodaly’s Sonata for Violoncello Solo, Op, 8 (1915), or similar work; An Evening with Cellist Stephen Feldman—A more informal program with extended spoken introductions to the repertoire performed. Compositions can include works by “Cajun Cellist” Sean Grissom, Turtle Island Quartet cellist Mark Summer, and violinist Mark O' Connor.
