The Mariposa Duo

The Mariposa Duo

Founded in 1998, the violin/piano duo Mariposa takes its name from the Spanish word for butterfly. Violinist Sandra McDonald is assistant concertmaster of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and Pianist Linda Holzer is professor of music at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Their performances feature chamber music masterworks by famous composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Dvorak, Schumann, and Schubert, as well as by exciting contemporary composers such as Gwyneth Walker, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Astor Piazzolla, and others. Concerts are approximately 75 minutes in length, and are designed to appeal to listeners of all ages, and include conversational commentary for the audience. Mariposa performs either duo selections for violin and piano, or works for violin, piano and other instruments.

Mariposa performs either duo selections for violin and piano, or works for violin, piano and other instruments. A frequent collaborator with Mariposa is Arkansas Symphony cellist Rafael Leon.
