Christine Westhoff and Timothy Allen
Christine Westhoff (soprano) and Timothy Allen (organ) communicate effortlessly with their audiences. Their tailored programs combine Christine’s glorious voice with the accompanimental and solo skills of Timothy Allen on piano or organ.
Timothy Allen was born and raised in St. Albans, England, and continued his music studies at Cambridge University, where he was Organ Scholar at Gonville and Caius College. He studied with Nicolas Kynaston while obtaining his Master degree in Music. In 1991, he became Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Columb’s Cathedral in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
While reviving the choir of men and boys at the Cathedral, Allen also co-founded the Two Cathedrals Festival with his colleague at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Derry, Donal Doherty. With its emphasis on breaking down religious barriers in the Province, the Festival became Northern Ireland’s premier music event.
Allen came to the United States in 2001 to serve in a large Episcopal Church in St. Louis, Missouri. There he met Christine Westhoff, and they were married in 2004. He was appointed Canon Precentor to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock in 2006. In 2012, Timothy moved across town to be organist and choirmaster at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he directs a growing choral and instrumental program. He is also College Organist at Hendrix College in Conway. An experienced service player, recitalist, clinician, choral conductor, and continuo player, Allen has worked with the Arkansas Chamber Singers and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
Classically- trained as a lyric operatic soprano, Christine Westhoff is one of the leading American artists in the area of Oratorio and Sacred Music, attracting the attention of a widening public including the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, and the United States.
Considered a prodigy by many of her early voice teachers, Christine began her vocal training at the age of 9, and, by the age of 11, was studying and training with various college professors. Since then, she has devoted herself to perfecting her art and to breathing new life into the sacred texts of bygone centuries.
In October 2013, Christine was invited to sing at the Church of St. Sylvestre al Quirinale in Rome following the release of her CD Ora Pro Nobis . Her Christmas CD Hark! was released in 2014. It has sold online in all the major continents and was listed as a Top Seller in Independent Music sales charts. It is featured as part of the playlist for the Irish Republic’s Classical Music Station, Lyric FM.
Christine is in demand from coast to coast. She recently was a featured artist for the Arkansas Symphony Christmas concerts, and future engagements include concerts in Canada, as well as recitals in the UK and Ireland. Christine is represented by the Concert Artists Co-operative.
