Arkansas Arts Council - Wednesday, May 31, 2017

Arkansas artists are invited to submit work for the 2018 Small Works on Paper exhibition. Deadline for entries is Friday, July 21, 2017. Click HERE to submit work online, or call (501) 324-9767 to receive a form by mail.

Celebrating its 31st year, Small Works on Paper is a competitive visual art exhibition showcasing artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. The Arkansas Artist Registry is an online gallery featuring the artwork of Arkansas artists. Membership to the Arkansas Artist Registry is free and open to all Arkansas artists.

The Small Works on Paper exhibition offers Arkansas artists an extraordinary opportunity to show their work to patrons all over the state. Ten venues across the state host the exhibition, which tours throughout the year. An out-of-state juror selects a maximum of 40 pieces of artwork to tour with the exhibition. Up to $2,000 is available for juror-selected purchase awards, which become part of the Small Works on Paper permanent collection.

Arkansas artists may enter up to three works of art on paper for a fee of $10 per entry or $25 for three entries. Works must have been completed within the last two years. Artists whose work is selected for the exhibition will be notified in September 2017. The 2018 exhibition will open at Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock in January 2018.

The 2018 juror is James Phillips, artist and associate professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Phillips teaches painting and public art and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He's a longtime member of the AfriCobra and Weusi art movements and his work has been exhibited internationally. His commissioned public art projects can be seen in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and San Francisco.
